The Kano State government has earmarked N99.9 million for the renovation of the Nassarawa mini palace, currently occupied by the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.
This move comes amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding the Kano Emirate tussle.
According to the State’s Commissioner of Information, Halilu Dantiye, the funds will be used for the renovation of the defective wall or fence and surroundings at Nassarawa Emir’s Palace. The project is part of the state’s N8.6 billion budget for various projects across health, education, water supply, and agriculture sectors.
However, a Kano-based group, War Against Injustice (WAI), has criticized the allocation, describing it as a misallocation of resources and unacceptable.
The group’s Executive Director, Comrade Umar Ibrahim, called on the government to prioritize the welfare of the common man and redirect the funds towards projects that benefit the majority of the population.
The controversy surrounding the Kano Emirate has been ongoing, with the government ordering the eviction of the Emir from the palace and the demolition and renovation of the property.
The allocation of funds for the renovation of the Nassarawa mini palace has sparked further debate, with many calling for greater accountability and transparency in the use of public resources.
