NDLEA Nabs osun community Head for alleged drug Trafficking

In a significant blow to drug traffickers, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made several major arrests and seizures across the country in a concerted effort to combat the scourge of drug trafficking.

According to sources, the agency’s special operations unit carried out a series of raids and intercepts, leading to the apprehension of several suspects and the confiscation of substantial quantities of illegal drugs.

In Osun State, the NDLEA arrested Ba’ale Ige Babatunde, 50, the head of the Akarabata community in Ile-Ife, who was found with 5 kilograms of fresh cannabis plants.

Meanwhile, a high-profile cocaine syndicate operating in Lagos was also dismantled when NDLEA operatives raided the residence of Agbakoba Mmadu, 54, and his wife Agbakoba Chinwe, 39. The couple’s associate, Okoye Maryjane, 31, was also arrested during the operation. The team recovered seven parcels of cocaine weighing 7.652 kilograms from Mmadu’s location and 122 compressed pellets of cocaine weighing 2.42 kilograms from the duo’s residence.

In another development, NDLEA officers in Benue State intercepted a consignment of 350 grams of cocaine concealed in an MP3 speaker at a check point along Enugu road in Otukpo. A swift follow-up operation led to the arrest of Odeh Anthony, 25, who was found to be the owner of the illicit drug.

In Adamawa State, a Chadian national, Yves Gali, was arrested by NDLEA officers during a stop-and-search operation along Ngurore-Yola road. The suspect was found with a loud speaker containing 20 compressed blocks and nine plastic containers of Loud, a strong strain of cannabis weighing 5.200 kilograms.

In Kano, a youth corps member, Yusuf Abdulrahman, 25, was arrested at Corpers Lodge in Sumaila area with 1.250 kilograms of Loud.

In Ondo State, NDLEA operatives raided Ikota forest in Ifedore LGA and destroyed 42,500 kilograms of cannabis on 17 hectares of farmland. Additionally, 73.5 kilograms of cannabis were recovered for prosecution.

Finally, in Abuja’s FCT, NDLEA officers arrested two suspects, Sanusi Mamman, 28, and Usaini Ibrahim, 20, who were found with large quantities of codeine syrup, tramadol pills, diazepam tablets, and rophynol pills.

These recent developments demonstrate the agency’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and related crimes in Nigeria.
