David Hundeyin revealed that he has been targeted by the authorities before, with attempts made to render him stateless
David Hundeyin, a renowned Nigerian investigative journalist, has been declared wanted by the Nigerian security authorities for allegedly leaking classified documents. However, Hundeyin is unapologetic and believes that his situation is a small price to pay for telling the truth.
Speaking on News Central TV, Hundeyin revealed that he has been targeted by the authorities before, with attempts made to render him stateless and illegally abduct him from foreign countries. He cited a recent attempt by the National Intelligence Agency to abduct him from Ghana, which forced him to flee to Kenya. When the authorities deemed it necessary to render him stateless in Kenya, he was forced to move to the UK.
Hundeyin’s ordeal is not new, as he has been a thorn in the side of the Nigerian government for some time. He has been vocal about his criticism of the government’s actions and has exposed several corrupt practices through his investigative reporting.
The journalist’s declaration of being declared wanted by the authorities comes after police high command announced that its operatives are trailing him and his alleged accomplice, Michael Temidayo Alade. The duo is accused of leaking classified documents in violation of the Official Secret Act.
Hundeyin remains defiant, stating that his situation is a result of telling the truth, even when it’s not fashionable. He believes that his work is a direct affront to the regime and sees it as a threat. Despite the risks and challenges he faces, Hundeyin remains committed to his work as an investigative journalist.
The incident highlights the growing concerns about press freedom and the safety of journalists in Nigeria. Hundeyin’s case is just one of many instances where journalists have been targeted by authorities for their reporting.
