Addressing the gathering, Comptroller-General of Immigration Service, Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap, highlighted the scope of the recent promotions, which saw a total of 13,977 officers elevated to higher ranks.
Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) decorated 15 newly promoted Assistant Comptrollers-General (ACGs) and 95 Comptrollers of Immigration with their new ranks at a ceremony held at the NIS Headquarters in Abuja on Friday.
The occasion, attended by dignitaries including former Comptrollers-General, representatives of paramilitary institutions, and the Secretary of the Board of Civil Defence Corps, Correctional Service, Fire and Immigration Services, Alhaji Ja’afaru Ahmed, marked a significant achievement for the NIS. It featured the decoration of 110 senior officers and the recognition of five others who were awarded special promotions for their outstanding contributions, integrity, and service to the nation.
Addressing the gathering, Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap, highlighted the scope of the recent promotions, which saw a total of 13,977 officers elevated to higher ranks. Mrs. Nandap noted that the mass promotion was a historic moment for the NIS, effectively ending years of stagnation within the Service.
“This mass promotion, unprecedented in scope and impact, sends a powerful message about our commitment to rewarding excellence, fostering growth, and building a Service that is not only motivated but also equipped to meet the demands of a modern and complex world,” she stated.
According to Mrs. Nandap, of the 13,977 personnel promoted, 15 officers were elevated to the rank of Assistant Comptroller-General, while 95 officers were promoted to the rank of Comptroller of Immigration. An additional 6,697 officers rose from Assistant Superintendent of Immigration II (ASI2) to Assistant Comptroller of Immigration (ACI), and 7,280 personnel advanced from Immigration Assistant II (IA2) to Inspector of Immigration (II).
She praised the dedication of the officers and acknowledged the critical role their families and friends played in supporting their achievements. Mrs. Nandap also expressed gratitude to the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his efforts in facilitating the promotions and emphasized the need for officers to adapt to ongoing reforms within the Service.
“This promotion must be seen as a call to greater responsibility. With a renewed focus on border governance, migration management, and the application of cutting-edge technology in our operations, we are determined to create a Service that is responsive to the needs of Nigeria in the 21st century,” she said.
Speaking further, Mrs. Nandap underscored the importance of strategic thinking, integrity, and leadership in the new roles, urging the newly promoted officers to lead with excellence in securing Nigeria’s borders and enhancing migration control.
In his remarks, Alhaji Ja’afaru Ahmed commended President Bola Tinubu and Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo for changing the narrative in the paramilitary services, noting that the recent series of promotions within the NIS and other paramilitary bodies were unprecedented in the last 16 months.
“The era of stagnation in the paramilitary services is gone,” Ahmed declared, while encouraging officers and men of the NIS to remain committed to their responsibilities in ensuring national security.
The event concluded with a renewed sense of dedication among the officers, as the NIS leadership urged them to see their new ranks as a stepping stone towards achieving greater excellence and service to the nation.
