The APC spokesman also accused Rotimi Amaechi of being a long-time beneficiary of state resources and a contributor to the country’s economic challenges.
Abuja, Nigeria – The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday condemned former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, over his recent remarks calling for protests against the hike in fuel prices.
The party described Amaechi’s comments as an attempt to incite Nigerian youths against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
The APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, issued a statement in Abuja titled “Rotimi Amaechi, Inciting Anarchy is Irresponsible and Unpatriotic.” In the statement, Morka criticized Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation, for urging Nigerian youths to take to the streets in protest against the rising cost of living.
Morka labeled Amaechi’s remarks as “irresponsible” and said his attitude towards the current APC government was unbecoming for a politician who had held various leadership positions, including two terms as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two terms as governor, and two terms as minister.
“Amaechi’s comments are insensitive, god-awful, and unpatriotic, coming from one of Nigeria’s longest-serving and highest-ranking political freeloaders,” Morka said. “He served as a two-term Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, a two-term governor, and a two-term Minister of Transport.”
Morka further challenged Amaechi’s claims about corruption in government. “If those in power ‘steal money,’ as Amaechi mischievously alleged, how come he can’t afford to ‘buy diesel’ barely two years after ‘stealing’ for over 24 years in power as speaker, governor, and minister? The only real anger that Amaechi and his fellow naysayers, like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, must feel is that they are not in the saddle of government today,” he added.
The APC spokesman also accused Amaechi of being a long-time beneficiary of state resources and a contributor to the country’s economic challenges. He called on Nigerians to disregard Amaechi’s comments, describing them as hypocritical, provocative, and dangerous.
“We urge Nigerians to dismiss the call to anarchy by Amaechi and his partisan tribesmen, and to remain patient and continue to support President Tinubu’s bold efforts to transform our country’s economy once and for all,” Morka concluded.
