Patience Dappa, Chairman of JUHI-2 Limited, described the depot as critical to strengthening Nigeria’s energy security and ensuring a reliable jet fuel supply chain.
Lagos, Nigeria – The Federal Government has commissioned the Joint User Hydrant Installation 2 (JUHI-2), a jet fuel depot with a storage capacity of 150 million litres of Jet A1 fuel, at Ikeja, Lagos.
The facility, the largest of its kind in Nigeria, is expected to deliver a minimum of 150 million litres of aviation fuel monthly to airlines, meeting 20 per cent of the nation’s annual jet fuel needs in a single month.
The JUHI-2 project is a collaboration between Eterna Plc, Masters Energy Oil & Gas, Techno Oil & Gas, Rahamaniyya Oil & Gas, Ibafon Oil, Quest Oil Group, and First Deep Water Limited.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, praised the project for enhancing Nigeria’s global aviation relevance.
“This facility is strategic and supportive to the aviation ecosystem in Nigeria. Flight delays and cancellations, often caused by fuel shortages, will be significantly reduced,” Keyamo said, highlighting that the depot’s proximity to both local and international airports aligns with international standards. He also emphasized that the depot would support essential operations such as hajj flights.
Keyamo noted that Nigeria’s aviation sector has made significant progress, with the country recently being removed from the list of non-compliant nations, achieving a 75.5 per cent rating in aircraft financing, up from 70.5 per cent. Nigerian airlines can now access aircraft through dry leases globally, a development that will further boost the industry.
Patience Dappa, Chairman of JUHI-2 Limited, described the depot as critical to strengthening Nigeria’s energy security and ensuring a reliable jet fuel supply chain. “This facility is equipped with cutting-edge filtration systems, a state-of-the-art laboratory, and advanced fire prevention technology. It will serve Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMA1, MMA2, and nearby airbases, improving response times and refuelling efficiency,” Dappa said.
Dappa further stated that the depot would enhance Nigeria’s position as a regional leader in aviation, reducing delays and improving flight scheduling, while also generating employment and stimulating economic growth in the surrounding communities.
Abiola Lawal, Managing Director/CEO of Eterna Oil Plc, noted that JUHI-2 features advanced technology capable of loading four fuel trucks simultaneously, significantly reducing delivery times to just 25 minutes. Additionally, the depot has an on-site laboratory to maintain the highest standards of fuel quality.
Bridget Gold, Director of Legal Services at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, also emphasized the facility’s role in improving service delivery and supporting national economic growth.
