SEATTLE, U.S.A- A 15-year-old boy has been charged with five counts of aggravated murder after allegedly killing his parents and three siblings in a tragic shooting at their home in eastern Seattle. The victims, identified as Mark Humiston, 43, his wife Sarah Humiston, 42, and their children Katheryn, 7, Joshua, 9, and Benjamin, 13, were found dead at the scene, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Brave Sister’s Escape

An affidavit filed by Detective Aaron Thompson revealed that the family’s 11-year-old daughter survived by playing dead and later fled to a neighbor’s home for help. The unnamed girl informed investigators that the 15-year-old suspect, her brother, had been in trouble for failing school exams and was the only one with access to the lockbox holding their father’s handgun.

A neighbor later corroborated the younger sister’s account, leading to the arrest of the 15-year-old in the driveway. Officers found the victims inside.

Community in Shock

Mark Humiston, one of the victims, worked as an electrical engineer with Hargis Engineers. In a statement, the company expressed deep sorrow, describing Mark as “a respected colleague, mentor, and friend.” They noted his leadership and commitment to the firm, adding, “He will be greatly missed.”

Next Steps in Court

The defendant, who has no prior criminal history, waived his right to a court appearance on Tuesday but is scheduled to appear in court on Friday afternoon. Authorities continue to investigate, with the case drawing widespread media attention across the Seattle area.
