Vice Chancellor Odoh Unveils Bold N70B Investment Strategy for UNIZIK
New Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Plans N70 Billion Investment in Five-Year Tenure

Professor Benard Odoh, the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, has unveiled an ambitious investment strategy, aiming to allocate N70 billion towards various initiatives over the course of his five-year tenure. During an inaugural ceremony in Awka, Odoh detailed his approach to enhancing the university’s infrastructure and academic environment.

To fund critical infrastructure projects and corporate social responsibility initiatives, Odoh announced a target of N10 billion through Public–Private Partnerships. He emphasized the importance of proactive leadership, stating that he will temporarily convert the university’s kitchen into his official residence until the permanent Vice Chancellor’s residence is completed. This move is intended to keep him closely involved with campus activities and maintain awareness of ongoing developments.

Expressing his commitment to transformative changes, Odoh acknowledged the current deficiencies in academic performance and vowed to amplify scholarly activities within the university. He remarked, “The university can no longer rely solely on international and national grants. We will ensure that hard work is recognized, while disloyalty will not be tolerated.”

In outlining his vision for the institution (UNIZIK), Odoh revealed plans for the construction of a 150-room hotel equipped with event and meeting spaces, designed to enhance visitor comfort and security while providing accommodation and conference services. Additionally, the Vice Chancellor highlighted the launch of the Coordinated Renewable Energy Solutions initiative, which includes a N100 million quasi-endowment fund aimed at bolstering research in renewable energy.

With these strategic initiatives, Professor Odoh aspires to elevate the university‘s standing and foster a more productive academic environment for students and faculty alike.
