Reacting to the visa denial, Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, strongly condemned Canada’s decision, calling it “painful” and “disrespectful.” Speaking at the inaugural annual lecture of the National Association of the Institute for Security Studies (AANISS) in Abuja on Thursday, Ribadu expressed his frustration.
Abuja, Nigeria – The Canadian Embassy has denied visas to Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, and other senior military officials, preventing them from attending a scheduled event in Canada.
General Musa revealed the development while speaking at a public event, expressing disappointment over the decision. According to him, the delegation was invited to participate in a ceremony honouring war veterans, including those injured in battle.
“Every disappointment is a blessing. Yesterday, I was supposed to be in Canada for an event celebrating our veterans, particularly those who were injured in combat. We were invited along with our team—half of us have gone, while the other half has been denied entry. It is very disappointing,” Musa stated.

“Thank you for having the courage to acknowledge that Canada denied you visas. They can go to hell,” Ribadu said.
Despite his criticism, Ribadu emphasized the need for Nigeria to focus on national development and security. “While it’s painful and disrespectful, we remain peaceful and strong. I agree with you that it is time to rebuild our country. Yet, this incident is another reminder of why we must work diligently to make Nigeria thrive,” he added.
Ribadu also commended General Musa for his leadership in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges, highlighting the ongoing collaboration among security agencies to strengthen national security.
The Canadian government has yet to officially comment on the visa denial.
