The Federal Government has confirmed 14 new cases of the coronavirus disease in Nigeria. This brings the total number of cases in the country to 65
This was announced in a tweet by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday night.
A breakdown of the number of the new cases showed that 12 of the new cases were discovered in Lagos while the remaining two were confirmed in the Abuja.
Six of the cases were detected on a vessel and three others were returning travelers into the country while the one case is a close contact of a confirmed case.
Meanwhile, Six coronavirus patients have recovered and are to be discharged tomorrow in Lagos state reports the state government.
The Lagos state government through its commissioner for health, Prof Akin Abayomi, had on Thursday hinted while on a radio interview that the state had six recovered patients.
On the global scale, the Coronavirus death toll in U.S. has now reached 1,000 with more than 500,000 confirmed cases worldwide.
Leaders from the Group of 20 nations convened — by video link — and pledged a robust and united worldwide effort. During the meeting, U.N. Secretary General António Guterres reminded the leaders that just 100,000 cases were confirmed in the first three months of the outbreak. “The next 100,000 happened in just 12 days,” he said. “The third took four days. The fourth, just one-and-a-half.”

- The confirmed coronavirus death toll in Italy rose to 8,165, the highest in the world, after officials on Thursday announced another 662 fatalities. More than half the global population is living under government restrictions related to the coronavirus.
- Following their video chat summit, the Group of 20 nations said they will inject $5 trillion into the global economy to help grapple with financial fallout from the pandemic. “We are strongly committed to presenting a united front against this common threat,” the group said in a statement.
- The $2 trillion emergency relief bill passed by the Senate will be voted on Friday by the House, said Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who predicted the measure would receive “strong bipartisan support,” but not unanimous consent. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), who opposes the bill, said Thursday that he is considering a procedural move that could delay passage of the bill to Saturday or Sunday.
- China will temporarily suspend foreign nationals with valid visas and residence permits from entering the country, in the latest move from Beijing to ramp up restrictions on foreigners entering the country amid the outbreak.
- The Labor Department’s weekly tally of 3.3 million jobless claims shattered the old U.S. record of 695,000, set in 1982. Of the “widespread carnage,” an economist at the University of Illinois at Chicago warned: “It’s going to get worse.”
