Singer Claims Mental Health Treatment at Ogun Psychiatric Hospital Amid Police Allegations of Assaulting Government Officials
Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has claimed he is a “mad man” currently undergoing treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta.
The singer made this declaration in a social media outburst on Tuesday while appealing to Nigerians and the Ogun State Government after being declared wanted by the state police command.
Portable Declared Wanted Over Alleged Assault
The singer is wanted in connection with an alleged attack on three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, Ota Zonal Office. The officials—identified as TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi—were conducting an enforcement exercise at Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota, Ogun State, when the incident occurred.
According to reports, the town planners had requested the approved building plan for a property where they encountered Portable’s father at a bar in the area. However, shortly after, the singer allegedly stormed the scene with a firearm and a gang of nine thugs, launching a violent attack on the unarmed officials.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed that the enforcement officers sustained injuries but managed to escape and report the incident. Nine suspects were arrested, but Portable fled and has remained in hiding.
Portable Alleges Political Set-Up, Declares Mental Health Status
Reacting to the police declaration, the singer took to Instagram in a series of rants, alleging that he was being set up due to his support for Senator Adeola Solomon, popularly known as Yayi.
He further claimed that he is mentally ill and has been receiving treatment at Aro Hospital.
“I fear government. I am a federal government liability. I’m a madman; I have medications that I usually take. You can confirm from Aro Hospital. I have a card that certifies me as one of their patients,”
Portable said.
He also insisted that he is not a criminal, stating,
“I am from Abeokuta, and they are taking care of me there. I am not a thief; I help people around me without even looking at their background.”
As of now, Portable remains on the run while the police continue their investigation.
