Popular Nigerian singer Douglas Jack Agu, also known as Runtown, says he will be leading a protest to end the terror carried out by men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) on the 8th of October, 2020.
The music star made this known via his Twitter page on Sunday, October 4, 2020.
“This has gone long enough and now we MUST take action! I’ll be leading a protest to #ENDSARS on Thursday, October 8th, 2020. They MUST listen to us, they MUST make/effect REAL and VISIBLE changes! Empty promises won’t work this time!!!” he tweeted.
“Let’s all come out to peacefully reach out to our “Elected” leaders beyond social media!!! Venue/Take Off Point: Lekki Phase 1, Toll Gate. 10 AM.” Singer Runtown added.
The music star joins the list of celebrities who have reacted to call for protest against killings and extortion by police officers.
Popular pop sensation, Wizkid had earlier lambasted president Buhari over the SARS issue. Wizkid reacted to Buhari’s message to US president, Donald Trump, wishing him well over his recent Covid-19 status.
Other popular musicians like Falz, Simi, Don Jazzy also reacted to the SARS issue and called on the government to disband the special police unit.
A new rave of protest had erupted online last week calling for the disbandment of the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (FSARS) after a viral video emerged online allegedly showing them kill a boy in Ugheli, Delta state. The video has now been disputed by more evidence which indicates SARS was not involved in the incident and the victim alleged to have been killed was only injured and is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
