Husband Sells Kidney to Secure Family’s Future, Only to Be Betrayed as Wife Runs Away with Lover and the Money
In a shocking incident from West Bengal, a man was deceived by his own wife into selling his kidney for ₹10 lakh ($11,500), only to be abandoned as she fled with both the money and her secret lover.
A Deceptive Plan
The incident took place in Sankrail, Howrah district, where the woman allegedly convinced her husband to sell his kidney for ₹10 lakh. She claimed they were facing severe financial struggles and needed funds for their daughter’s education and future marriage. Believing her, the man agreed, thinking the sacrifice would secure their family’s future.
After a year-long search, they found a buyer, and the husband underwent the surgery. But instead of using the money for the family’s welfare, the wife had other plans.
The Lover’s Escape
While her husband was making sacrifices, the woman had secretly developed a romantic relationship with Ravi Das, a painter from Subhash Colony in Barrackpore. Their affair, which began on Facebook, soon escalated. Once she secured the ₹10 lakh, she abandoned her husband and ran off with Das.
Husband’s Search for Justice
Determined to track them down, the betrayed husband filed a police complaint and, with the help of his family and 10-year-old daughter, traced their hideout in Barrackpore. However, upon reaching the house, the couple refused to open the door, avoiding any confrontation.
The wife brazenly dismissed her husband’s pleas, reportedly telling him,
“Do what you must. I will be sending a divorce letter.”
Illegal Organ Trade on the Rise
Illegal organ trading remains a pressing issue in India. On January 21, Telangana officials uncovered a kidney transplant racket at Alaknanda Hospital in Saroor Nagar, Rangareddy district. Reports revealed that two donors were paid ₹4 lakh ($5,500) each for their kidneys, while recipients were charged a staggering ₹50 lakh ($65,000) per transplant.
Authorities continue to investigate organ trafficking networks, urging stricter enforcement against such illegal activities. Meanwhile, the betrayed husband in Howrah is left with both a broken heart and an irreparable loss.
