Residents of Tatagyiya, a community in Gwagwa Ward of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) in the Federal Capital Territory, are grappling with frequent cases of diarrhoea. The outbreak has been linked to the community’s sole water source, a contaminated stream.
Monitng, a civic technology platform, highlighted the dire situation on Saturday, sharing photographs of the community and urging immediate intervention from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe.
The organization used its social platform to draw attention to the hazardous conditions. “This is Tatagyiya community located in Gwagwa ward, AMAC Abuja. This dirty stream is the ONLY source of water,” Monitng posted, alongside videos and photos of residents collecting water from the stream.
Monitng emphasized the urgent need for action, stating, “The water is not safe for human consumption. Cases of diarrhoea among children are frequent in the community. We call on @GovWike and @IretiKingibe to kindly reach out to the responsible authorities to do the needful. Residents of this community need clean water for consumption.”
