Former Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has commended security operatives for their relentless efforts leading to the successful release of 287 abducted school children in Kaduna state after 16 days in captivity.
In a statement issued today, Atiku Abubakar expressed elation at the news of the children’s safe return and extended gratitude to all those involved in securing their release.
“While celebrating the return of these children to their families and friends, it is imperative to acknowledge the urgent need for proactive measures to address the escalating insecurity plaguing our nation,” Atiku remarked.
Highlighting the trauma experienced by the abducted children, Atiku recommended the provision of psychotherapeutic care by trained professionals to aid in their recovery.
Moreover, Atiku emphasized the necessity of preemptive action to prevent future incidents, advocating for the strengthening of the Safe School Initiative, particularly in vulnerable regions susceptible to mass abductions.
“Beyond immediate measures, there is a pressing need for a comprehensive overhaul of our security architecture to effectively combat the evolving threats facing our nation,” Atiku asserted.
The news of the release of the abducted schoolchildren was first made public by Senator Uba Sani, the Governor of Kaduna State via his X handle in the early hours of Sunday.
