Tinubu names Abuja council road after famous potter, Ladi Kwali

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday, June 11, commissioned a 3.2km Road Arterial Road and Bridge in Kwali Area Council, named after late Nigeria’s famous potter, Ladi Kwali. The road and bridge, which were previously abandoned for over 14 years and 20 years, respectively, have been completed by Wike’s administration in just three months.

Wike praised Ms Kwali’s creativity and contributions to the development of Abuja and Nigeria, describing her as a woman who brought fame not only to the FCT but the entire nation. The Minister also highlighted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to the wellbeing of Nigerians and his vision to deliver the dividends of democracy.

The newly named Ladi Kwali Road is a strategic link between the Kwali main town and the Abuja-Lokoja highway. Wike promised that the road will be adequately illuminated with solar-powered street lights to provide security and enhance visibility.

During the commissioning ceremony, Wike emphasized that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu knows no religion, tribe or political affiliation, and is focused on delivering tangible projects to Nigerians. He also assured that three strategic roads will be delivered to the people of Kwali Area Council this year.

Kwali Area Council Chairman, Danladi Chiya, thanked Wike for honoring the late Ms Kwali and praised the Minister for recognizing her contributions to the development of Abuja. Chiya expressed gratitude to Wike for bringing back hope to the people of Kwali Area Council, which had lost hope due to the abandonment of the road for over 14 years.

Ms Kwali was a renowned potter who died in 1984. Her legacy continues to inspire generations, and her image remains on the N20 note as a testament to her contributions to Nigerian culture. The naming of the road after her is a fitting tribute to her memory and a celebration of her achievements.
