Ogun State, Nigeria — British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua was involved in a serious road accident on Monday, December 29, 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, one of Nigeria’s busiest inter-state highways. The crash resulted in the deaths of two passengers, while Joshua sustained minor injuries and was hospitalised, local authorities confirmed.
One of the dead victims has been suspected to be Aj’s close friend, known as Latz. The second is his personal coach, Sina.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Ogun State Police, the accident occurred near the Makun/Sinoma axis at around midday when the Lexus SUV carrying Joshua collided with a stationary truck after losing control during a high-speed overtaking manoeuvre. Preliminary findings cite excessive speed and wrongful overtaking as the principal causes.
FRSC officials said five adult males were involved in the incident: two died at the scene, one was injured, and two others were unhurt. Joshua, who was seated in the rear of the vehicle, was also taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment following the crash. The deceased have been deposited at a morgue in Sagamu.

Eyewitness images and videos circulating on social media show chaotic scenes at the crash site, with bystanders assisting the injured before emergency responders arrived. Nigerian authorities have launched an investigation into the precise sequence of events leading up to the collision.
The incident has drawn attention to ongoing concerns about road safety and emergency response systems in Nigeria, particularly along major expressways where high speeds, unsafe overtaking and limited traffic enforcement continue to contribute to frequent fatal crashes. Independent road safety analysts note that such highways often lack adequate traffic management infrastructure and rapid response capabilities.
Joshua, 36, was in Nigeria following his recent boxing victory over Jake Paul and ahead of future bouts planned for 2026. Promoters and family contacts have expressed relief at his survival and extended condolences to the families of those killed.
