Banditry in Nigeria’s North-West Region: Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi alleges Top Politicians Secretly Backing Criminals

A former Zamfara State governorship candidate, Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has made a shocking allegation that top politicians are secretly sponsoring banditry in Nigeria’s North-West region. The accusation comes amid a surge in attacks and kidnappings in the area.

Shinkafi, who is also the Executive Director of Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development (PAPSD), believes that influential politicians are undermining efforts to restore peace by secretly backing the bandits. He has called for a probe into those politicizing insecurity and condemned unscrupulous politicians using banditry for selfish gains.

In a statement, Shinkafi praised President Tinubu’s directive that led to the elimination of notorious bandits, including Kachalla Halilu Sububu, Jamilu Nazakiru, Sani Black, Danbaleri Mashekari, and Wala Baburki. He emphasized the military successes in neutralizing these bandit leaders.

Shinkafi also commended the Defence Headquarters’ investigation into the sponsorship of banditry, calling it a “welcome development” and a long overdue step towards sustainable peace and development in the region. He urged that anyone found culpable in the probe should face the full weight of the law, regardless of their status or position in the country.

Furthermore, Shinkafi accused some unscrupulous politicians of using banditry as a campaign tool against their opponents for selfish political motives. He also criticized other public office holders who use security challenges as a conduit to divert and siphon public funds for personal enrichment.

The former governorship candidate also defended Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, against blackmail allegations, citing his excellent performance in President Tinubu’s cabinet.

The Defence Headquarters’ investigation into the sponsorship of banditry is seen as a major step towards addressing the security challenges in the region. The probe is expected to uncover the truth behind the surge in attacks and kidnappings, and bring those responsible to justice.
