ABUJA – Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has been released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following his denial of a controversial audio recording. In the viral clip, he allegedly claims to have paid a bribe of N15 million to EFCC officials to drop charges of money laundering against him.
Bobrisky was detained late Thursday night while attempting to board a KLM flight bound for Amsterdam, en route to London, at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
After his arrest, the social media personality took to his platforms to report injuries he sustained during the incident. He was subsequently moved to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja for questioning regarding the bribery allegations.
The disputed audio clip, which gained traction through social commentator Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, purportedly features Bobrisky admitting to bribing EFCC officials to evade prosecution. However, during interrogation at the EFCC’s headquarters, Bobrisky asserted that he had not engaged in any bribery and challenged Otse to substantiate the claims made in the recording.
A source acquainted with the situation revealed that Bobrisky firmly denied any financial transactions took place and confirmed that no EFCC personnel had ever solicited a bribe from him. “He refuted all allegations regarding the payment and insisted that the individual who released the voice note should come forward to prove its authenticity. He maintained that there was no request for money from any EFCC official, nor did he provide anything,” the source shared.
Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson for the EFCC, verified Bobrisky’s release but opted not to provide additional details on the ongoing investigation.
