Social media crossdresser Okuneye Idris, popularly known as Bobrisky, faced a sudden detainment by immigration officials on Thursday night while attempting to board a KLM flight bound for Amsterdam. The well-known cross-dresser took to Instagram to inform his followers about the incident, revealing that he sustained injuries during a confrontation with immigration personnel.
Bobrisky accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of orchestrating his arrest, pleading for assistance from his fans. “Nigerians, please help me! The EFCC has just arrested me, and I’m seriously injured,” he wrote.
Earlier on October 22, Bobrisky was reportedly apprehended at the Sème border while allegedly trying to flee the country. His troubles began back in April 2024 when he was sentenced to six months in prison by the Federal High Court in Lagos for charges related to naira abuse.
Although initially confined at Kirikiri Prison, subsequent reports suggested that Bobrisky spent only three weeks there before being quietly relocated to a more private setting. This led to rampant speculation about possible corruption involving a ₦15 million payment made to officials for favorable treatment and early release.
The situation intensified in late September 2024 when social media influencer VeryDarkMan shared an audio clip that allegedly featured Bobrisky. In this recording, Bobrisky purportedly accused music artist Falz and his father, renowned human rights attorney Femi Falana, of soliciting ₦10 million from him during his incarceration to secure a presidential pardon.
In response, the Falanas issued a cease-and-desist letter on October 16, 2024, demanding a public retraction and apology for what they termed defamatory remarks. Bobrisky swiftly denied having made these comments, stating that he was not accountable for the leaked audio and called on the Falanas to pursue action against VeryDarkMan instead.
