Two men excrete 150 wraps of cocaine at Lagos airport

Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant strides in its war against drug trafficking and abuse, announcing a series of arrests and seizures across the country.

In a major operation at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, two passengers were apprehended after testing positive for ingesting illicit substances. The suspects, identified as Aikhomoun Daniel and Ayigoro Waheed Omobolaji, were found to have ingested 90 wraps of cocaine weighing 1.022kg and 60 wraps of the same substance weighing 662g, respectively.

Further investigation revealed that Daniel had stolen the identity of his late uncle, who had once lived in Germany, to obtain a Schengen visa for free access to Europe.

Separately, NDLEA operatives intercepted 6,125 cartons of codeine syrup containing 1.05 million bottles worth over N7.35 billion at the Port Harcourt Ports complex in Rivers State. This is the third such operation in the past four weeks, following credible intelligence and diligent tracking of the consignments.

In Abuja, a drug party dubbed “Go Hard or Go Home. Pick Your Poison” was disrupted, leading to the arrest of 60 suspects – 35 females and 25 males- at an apartment in Sun City estate. The operation followed credible intelligence about the party organized by Stanley Ikechukwu, who was arrested at the scene.

Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (retired), commended the officers involved in the operations and warned drug cartels that no matter their mode of trafficking, they will always be one step ahead.

The agency has also continued its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization activities in schools, worship centers, workplaces, and communities across the country. These include WADA enlightenment lectures for students and staff of First Technical University in Ibadan, Oyo State; students of Government Day Secondary School in Yola, Adamawa; students and teachers of Ezeike High School in Nibo, Anambra; members of Mount Zion Anglican Church in Igoba, Akure, Ondo State; and WADA advocacy visits to the palace of the Oba of Yoruba in Kano.

The agency has also recovered a large quantity of cannabis from various parts of the country.
