Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has condemned the vandalization of the Kano State High Court, which was ravaged by hoodlums during the August 1st nationwide protests. The Governor accused political enemies of orchestrating the destruction, claiming that the miscreants were hired to steal documents containing corruption charges filed against former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
During an on-the-spot assessment visit to the damaged court, Governor Yusuf stated that the destruction was a well-planned and staged operation aimed at shielding the former governor, his family, and aides from trial. The Governor estimated that the damage caused by the vandalism exceeded one billion naira, with stolen office equipment, destroyed offices, burned cars, and other crucial materials lost.
The Governor appealed to the youth in the state to desist from being used by detractors to engage in violent activities, instead urging them to focus on skills acquisition for a better future. He assured that the judiciary, as the last hope of the common man, must be protected at all costs.
Governor Yusuf also commiserated with Chief Judge Dije Abdu Aboki and the entire Judiciary family for the unfortunate incident. He urged them to remain steadfast and continue to deliver justice to the people of Kano State.
The Governor expressed gratitude to the people of the state for their support and cooperation with his administration. He prayed for sustenance of peace, stability, and economic development in the state.
The vandalism occurred when protesters hijacked the peaceful demonstration and turned it into a violent rampage. The affected properties included private and public buildings, including the Kano State High Court, NCC, and Kano State printing press.
In related news, Governor Yusuf directed immediate rehabilitation of the damaged court building and deployment of adequate security for effective justice delivery.
