Police Command Warns Against Cultism Celebration on August 8

The Osun State Police Command has issued a stern warning to cultists and other unscrupulous elements in the state to abandon plans to celebrate cultism on August 8.

The command, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, in Osogbo on Wednesday, warned that any unlawful gathering or assembly would not be tolerated.

According to the statement, the command received credible intelligence that some cult groups were planning to mark the “8/8” celebration, which could lead to bloodshed and destruction of properties. The command has therefore deployed adequate security measures to ensure a peaceful atmosphere during the Osun-Osogbo festival, which climaxes on Friday.

The command has also appealed to parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and wards and warn them against any act that may contravene provisions of the law. “We will not spare anyone who constitutes a threat to law and order,” the statement emphasized.

In a bid to prevent any potential threats, the command has arranged for collaboration with other security agencies and the Civilian JTF. The public is also urged to be vigilant and report any infraction of the law to the authorities.

The Osun State Police Command is determined to maintain peace and order in the state, and residents are advised to be security-conscious during the festival.
