The newly appointed Director-General of the DSS, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, took office last Thursday, vowing to refocus the service towards covertness and silence.
Nigeria – The Department of State Services (DSS) has announced the redeployment of its Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications, Peter Afunanya. Afunanya made the announcement at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, but declined to disclose his new duty post, citing the redeployment as a routine exercise in the service to the nation.
Afunanya has been serving in the media section of the secret police for over 10 years, having taken up the role at a time when the agency was facing challenges with its public image. He replaced Marilyn Ogar, who was compulsorily retired from service in 2015 after investigations into allegations of bribery and professional misconduct.
Ogar’s departure was met with widespread controversy, with allegations of corruption and partisanship levelled against her. She denied all the allegations, maintaining her innocence. Afunanya expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve the country as the spokesman of the covert security outfit and pledged to continue doing his best in whatever capacity he is chosen to serve.
The newly appointed Director-General of the DSS, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, took office last Thursday, vowing to refocus the service towards covertness and silence. Prior to his appointment, Ajayi served as the Kogi State director of the DSS. He also pledged to work towards surmounting challenges facing Nigeria’s economic, political, and security environments.
Afunanya expressed his commitment to carrying out his duty with “love, loyalty, honour, and glory” and vowed to continue serving the country with dedication. The redeployment of Afunanya is seen as a routine exercise in the service, aimed at ensuring continued efficiency and effectiveness in the discharge of its duties.
