In a bid to clamp down on the proliferation of Russian flags, the Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested several tailors in Kano State who were allegedly mass-producing the flags. According to reports, some sponsors of the operation have also been apprehended by the security agency.
The development comes against the backdrop of recent protests by #EndBadGovernance campaigners in several northern states, during which some participants were spotted carrying Russian flags. The DSS has since confirmed that one individual, Adaramoye Michael, also known as Michael Lenin, is not in its custody.
DSS investigates tailors producing the Russian flags
The investigation into the flag-making operation is ongoing, with the DSS assuring the public that it is taking swift action to address the matter. The agency has not provided further details on the number of individuals arrested or the extent of the operation.
It is unclear what prompted the DSS to launch an investigation into the production and distribution of Russian flags in Kano State. However, observers have suggested that the move may be linked to concerns over national security and potential threats to public order.
The Nigerian government has not commented publicly on the matter, but it is expected to issue a statement soon to clarify its stance on the issue.
