FG Slaps Treason Charges on #EndBadGovernance Protesters

Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian government has arraigned 10 youths before a Federal High Court in Abuja for allegedly demanding good governance during a protest. The youths, arrested in Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, and Gombe, were charged with treasonable felony for participating in a protest tagged #EndBadGovernance.

The defendants, who were brought to the court under tight security, pleaded not guilty to the six-count charges filed against them. According to a court document obtained by SaharaReporters, the charges were filed against the 10 protesters, who are listed as defendants.

The defendants include Michael Tobiloba Adaramoye (aka Lenin), Adeyemi Abiodun Abayomi (aka Yomi), Suleiman Yakubu, Comrade Opaluwa Eleojo Simeon, Angel Love Innocent, Buhari Lawal, Mosiu Sadiq, Bashir Bello (aka Murtala), Nuradeen Khamis, and Abdulsalam Zubairu.

The defendants’ lawyers were present in court to represent their clients. Abubakar Marshal is representing the 1st-4th defendants, while Hamza is representing the 5th defendant. Deji Adeyanju is representing the 6th-8th defendants, and Ahmed Abdulrahaman is representing the 9th defendant.

The development has sparked concerns over the government’s treatment of peaceful protesters and its commitment to upholding human rights. The #EndBadGovernance protest was seen as a call for accountability and good governance from the government.
