The police have now initiated an orderly room trial for the officer involved in the incident.

The officer at the center of the investigation has been identified as Ozonwanji Joseph, who is part of the Anti-Cult Tactical Squad (ACTS). In a statement released on Sunday, police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe indicated that Commissioner of Police Kanayo Uzuegbu has promised both state residents and the wider public that justice will be served.

As part of the response to the incident, the Commissioner has mandated the immediate reassignment of Superintendent Ekeleme Chidobe, the commander of the ACTS unit, to allow for an in-depth review of the unit’s activities following allegations of misconduct.

The official statement read, “In light of the tragic and unjust killing of Enugu-based Ogene musician Chikezie Okezie Nwamba, also known as Igbo-Jah, the Enugu State Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has finalized its investigation into the matter. He also encouraged the public to maintain their trust and support for the police as they work towards a fair resolution of the case.

According to Ndukwe, the shooting incident occurred late on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Tactical Squad’s Headquarters, as the musician was leaving after a social visit. Although the reasons behind the officer’s action remain unknown, the Commissioner has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of the shooting.
