A fresh explosion has allegedly occurred around the Soku Gas Field in Akuku Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The blast is suspected to have occurred around the Orashi River axis on a gas pipeline owned by the NLNG which connects from the Soku Gas plant down to Abua Odua LGA of the state around 9:15 PM on Saturday.
Eyewitnesses have uploaded videos of the blast on social media.
Rivers Political Tussle and Explosion At Bodo, Gokana
An explosion was also recorded on the Trans-Niger Pipeline at Bodo, located in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, sparking a raging fire on the 18th of March, 2025. Authorities said the incident was an act of sabotage, following the political tussles in the state.
Following the explosion at Bodo, President Bola Tinubu announced a state of emergency in the state on March 18. The president’s order also suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.
The order has been met with wide condemnation from many Nigerians, especially those from the Ijaw ethnic extraction.
