Folarin Falana, known as Falz, demands retraction from VeryDarkMan regarding controversial allegations

In a dramatic turn of events, Nigerian rapper and actor Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to social media influencer VeryDarkMan. The ultimatum comes in response to alleged defamatory statements made by VeryDarkMan on Instagram.

The legal notice, issued by Falana & Falana Chambers, calls for an immediate retraction and apology regarding claims made in a September 25, 2024, Instagram post. VeryDarkMan accused Falz of attempting to secure a presidential pardon for Nigerian crossdresser Bobrisky in exchange for N10,000,000.

According to the letter, the Instagram post falsely suggested that both Falana and his father, renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana, were involved in this controversial matter. It alleged that the elder Falana sought to “divert justice” by negotiating with Bobrisky for financial gain, a claim the letter categorically denies.

Falana & Falana Chambers described the statements as “vicious, wicked, and reckless,” asserting that they were intended to damage the esteemed reputation of both Femi and Folarin Falana. The letter emphasized that Mr. Falana has never communicated with Bobrisky regarding any matters, let alone sought a presidential pardon for the crossdresser.

The legal team condemned the accusations as “false, misleading, and defamatory,” asserting that they misrepresent Falana’s longstanding commitment to fighting injustice and corruption. The letter pointed out that the claims insinuate personal financial motivations behind Falana’s advocacy, which contravenes the Legal Practitioner Rules of Professional Conduct.

While acknowledging VeryDarkMan’s right to free expression under the Nigerian Constitution, the Chambers stressed the importance of ensuring that published claims are factual. They demanded that the influencer retract the defamatory statements and issue a public apology across all platforms where the misinformation was shared.

If VeryDarkMan fails to comply within the stipulated 24 hours, Falana & Falana Chambers have indicated they will pursue legal action, including claims for monetary damages. The letter concluded by urging a swift resolution to avoid further legal consequences.
