The University of Edinburgh, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, is offering fully funded scholarships for exceptional African students through its 2025 Online Mastercard Scholarship Program. This initiative aims to support young scholars with strong academic and leadership potential who have faced significant barriers to education.

What the Scholarship Covers

  • Full Tuition Fees: Scholarship recipients won’t pay any part of their tuition.

  • Leadership Development: Participation in online workshops, coaching, and the broader climate leadership program.
  • In-Person Gathering: Scholars will have the chance to attend an in-person event at the University of Edinburgh.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, applicants must:

  1. Hold citizenship or refugee status in a Sub-Saharan African country.
  2. Be 35 years or younger by September 1, 2025.
  3. Have completed an undergraduate degree by September 2024, meeting the required academic standards.
  4. Have demonstrated leadership skills and a commitment to community service.
  5. Have faced significant barriers to education (social, financial, or health-related).
  6. Show a commitment to addressing the climate crisis.
  7. Not have previously completed a postgraduate degree, nor be enrolled in another university during the scholarship.

  • 31 October 2024: Deadline for Declaration and Eligibility Assessment
  • 8 November 2024: Applications Close
  • Mid-February 2025: Notification of application outcomes
