Governor Uba Sani Launches Financial Inclusion Initiative for Vulnerable Populations in Kaduna State
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has unveiled an initiative aimed at enhancing financial inclusion by opening two million bank accounts for economically disadvantaged and underserved citizens. This effort underscores his administration’s pledge to adopt a “pro-poor, people-centred” governance model.
The governor made this announcement during a festive event held on Thursday at the Umaru Yar’adua Conference Centre in Kaduna, where he distributed food items and palliatives in celebration of Christmas and New Year. The occasion was led by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
“Through our financial inclusion initiative, we have established over two million bank accounts for the poor, vulnerable, and underserved populations. This will enable them to access various social intervention programs provided by both the state and federal governments,” Governor Sani remarked.
He also took the opportunity to highlight various initiatives undertaken by his administration, including the distribution of palliatives, agricultural inputs, and the provision of grants and soft loans to support farmers and small businesses.
Governor Sani praised the First Lady, referring to her as “the mother of the nation” due to her caring and compassionate nature. He acknowledged her contributions to impactful social programs, both during her time as First Lady of Lagos State and as a senator in the 9th National Assembly.
“Her Excellency was a colleague during my time in the 9th Senate. Like the mother she truly is, she took exceptional care of her colleagues, consistently providing welfare packages during festive seasons. Her generosity is truly remarkable,” he added.
Additionally, Sani encouraged the people of Kaduna State to utilize the holiday season to foster the state’s existing peaceful environment, referencing the Kaduna Peace Model as an effective framework for conflict resolution.
“Our state has made significant strides in recovery. Many other conflict-affected states are looking to replicate our successful model,” he noted.
He concluded by commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him as a “listening President” dedicated to easing the challenges faced by Nigerians through an array of social intervention initiatives.
