Gunmen abduct Rivers monarch’s police orderly and driver

A disturbing incident has unfolded in Rivers State, as unidentified gunmen kidnapped a police orderly and driver attached to a respected traditional ruler in the state. The victims, who were abducted from the residence of His Royal Highness (HRH) Chief Cornwell Ihunwo, a paramount ruler of Rumu-Elechi community in Nkpolu-Orowurokwo, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, are currently in the custody of their captors.

According to an Executive member of Diobu Vigilante and Chief Security Officer of Nkpolu-Orowurokwo, Godstime Ihunwo, the abduction occurred around 8pm on Saturday, June 22, 2024. Godstime stated that the motive behind the kidnap appeared to be the target on the traditional ruler himself, which is widely condemned by the community.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Rivers State Command, Superintendent of Police Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident and assured that an investigation is underway to track down the perpetrators and rescue the victims.

The community has urged the police to expedite their investigation and ensure that those responsible for the heinous act are brought to justice. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, sparking concerns about the safety of traditional rulers and their security personnel in the state.
