Nigerian Priest Claims ‘Holy Ghost Fire’ Prayer Reflects Antichrist Spirit

Rev. Father Chinenye Oluoma, a Nigerian Catholic priest, has sparked controversy with his recent remarks, asserting that individuals who invoke the phrase “holy ghost fire” in their prayers embody the spirit of the antichrist. He shared his provocative views in a video posted on his verified Facebook page on Thursday.

Oluoma emphasized that the phrase “holy ghost fire” has no basis in scripture for use in deliverance, insisting that prayers for deliverance should be made “in the name of Jesus Christ.” He challenged the widespread practice among many Christians, stating, “Those who are anointed experience transformation. What truly matters with your anointing is the Spirit of God that fills you.”

The priest warned, “Anyone praying for ‘Holy Ghost fire’ against their enemies does not possess the Spirit of God. Instead, they have expelled the Spirit from themselves. If you call for ‘Holy Ghost fire’ to strike down your enemies, you lack the Spirit of Christ. In fact, you are among the antichrists.”

He further elaborated on how such prayers are misused: “If someone prays, ‘Every enemy who said I will not succeed this year, I invoke holy ghost fire,’ that person embodies an antichrist spirit.” He suggested that such assertions are largely unwelcome among many believers.

Oluoma called for a reevaluation of common prayer practices, noting, “When confronting a genuinely possessed individual, it is only in the name of Jesus Christ that evils are cast out. However, in some communities, the invocation of holy ghost fire against enemies has become commonplace.”

The priest urged listeners to enlighten others on this subject and highlighted, “One defining characteristic of an antichrist is the habitual use of ‘Holy Ghost fire’ in prayers. In legitimate deliverance practices, holy ghost fire is never employed. Instead, the power lies in the name of Jesus Christ.”

He concluded by lamenting how modern interpretations of prayer have incorporated “holy ghost fire” into the request for divine assistance, which he considers a deviation from biblical teachings.
