Ibikunle Amosun Reveals Miraculous Birth Story at Mother’s Remembrance Prayer

Ogun State, Nigeria – Former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun made headlines on Sunday when he shared a remarkable revelation about his birth during the 25th remembrance prayer for his late mother, Rafatu Sanusi-Amosun, at the family’s residence in Abeokuta. The event marked the anniversary of his mother’s passing on October 27, 1999.

Amosun described his birth as miraculous, stating that his mother carried him for an astonishing three and a half years. He noted that many struggled to believe he was a human being at birth due to the unusually long gestation period.

At the ceremony, he underscored the significance of honoring one’s parents even after their death, a value he stressed is affirmed in both the Quran and the Bible. “Beyond respecting our parents when they are no longer around, the best gift we can offer them is prayer,” he said. He explained that as this was a notable milestone, the gathering was not a celebration but an occasion to seek Allah’s forgiveness for his mother’s soul.

Amosun recounted how his father’s actions reflected the uncertainty surrounding his birth. “My father, who was not there during the pregnancy, even arranged for fuel to be purchased to burn my body if I did not survive the birth,” he revealed, adding that the experience led his father to give him the name ‘Duro-o-rike,’ which translates to ‘Stay and be given the best of care.’

Describing the mystery surrounding his mother’s pregnancy, Amosun mentioned that it seemed to come and go over an extended period. “When I was finally born, many people ran away, unable to believe I was a human being, but here I am today, alive and well,” he concluded.

Supporting his brother’s narrative, Abidoye Amosun shared that just three days before the naming ceremony, their father sent traditional gifts along with a letter that included the names of the newborn.

During the ceremony, the former governor reflected on the fleeting nature of life, calling for prayers for his late mother and all departed souls. The event was attended by prominent Islamic leaders from Egbaland and beyond, alongside aides who had served under him during his eight years in office, as well as numerous family members.
