IPOB Denounces Alleged Biafra Declaration in Finland as a Fraud
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a strong refutation of a reported Biafra declaration that took place in Finland, labeling it a deceitful act orchestrated by an unfamiliar and disreputable group. In a statement released on Sunday by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB maintained that there is no validity to any Biafra declaration beyond that made by its iconic leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, in 1967.
The statement noted, “IPOB commends responsible media outlets and social media influencers both in Nigeria and overseas for not giving credence to the mockery of the Biafra struggle by infiltrators, both in Finland and elsewhere. It is crucial to communicate to the international community, Biafrans, and supporters of Biafran freedom that the original Biafra was declared by our eternal leader, Ojukwu, in 1967. What IPOB is striving for is the restoration of the sovereignty of that established Biafra Independence, which was forcefully suppressed through acts of genocide by the Nigerian and British governments.”
The organization is advocating for a United Nations-supervised referendum for Biafrans, aiming to restore the sovereignty that was declared. IPOB firmly stated that no one else has the authority to make a second declaration of Biafra. They expressed disappointment that some unscrupulous individuals, who previously attempted to infiltrate and undermine IPOB, have been using the event in Finland as a platform to stage a second declaration outside of Biafra.
“Those participating in the event in Finland are the same individuals who have previously contributed to insecurity in the South East Region. Their agenda is to disrupt the South East, create division among the people, and divert the focus of Biafrans and supporters of the Biafra movement, thus rendering the genuine Biafra struggle less appealing. They have failed miserably,” the statement asserted.
Historically, IPOB’s leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, was compelled by various adversaries to make a second declaration of Biafra, but he consistently refused. The group praised Kanu as a wise freedom fighter who understands the complexities and regulations regarding self-determination. They noted that after attempts to manipulate Kanu into an untimely declaration failed, the infiltrators resorted to staging the event in Finland to undermine IPOB.
“IPOB is a knowledgeable movement dedicated to the restoration of Biafran sovereignty and freedom. It will not engage in self-deception or exploitative schemes surrounding the Biafra project. Those associated with the misguided notion of a Biafra declaration in Finland are deemed criminals, misinformed, and false agents,” the statement read.
Emphasizing the seriousness of their cause, the group stated, “The Biafra struggle transcends mere politics; it is deeply spiritual, rooted in the blood and sacrifices of those who have fought for this noble cause. Any individual, group, or nation obstructing the path to Biafran restoration will face severe repercussions. Those profiting from this unrest and mocking the Biafra struggle globally will eventually face a reckoning, which will not necessarily be at the hands of IPOB but rather through the legacy of Biafra’s fallen heroes.”
In conclusion, IPOB urged Biafrans and their supporters to recognize the so-called declaration of Biafra Independence in Finland as a fraudulent endeavor. They cautioned that those who financed the organizers of the event in Finland have fallen victim to a scam. As the group hopes that these infiltrators will now enjoy their purported freedoms, they implored them to cease interfering with IPOB’s peaceful initiatives aimed at the restoration of Biafra.
