Kaduna Protest Turns Violent: Rioters Seize Armoured Tank

In a shocking turn of events, a group of rioters in Kaduna State, Nigeria, temporarily commandeered an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) belonging to the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) on Monday.

The #EndBadGovernance protest, which began peacefully on Thursday, took a violent turn as suspected hoodlums hijacked the demonstration and launched attacks on innocent civilians. Security operatives were deployed to contain the situation, and normalcy was eventually restored.

However, following a nationwide broadcast by President Bola Tinubu on Sunday, more protesters took to the streets on Monday. The crowd was characterized by the display of Russian flags and anti-government slogans, with participants expressing their frustration with the leadership.

In the Tudun Wada Area of Kaduna South Local Government Area, a group of young men were spotted patrolling the streets in an APC belonging to the Mobile Police 1 unit. The protesters gathered in front of Shema Filling Station along Chawai road, where they sat atop the armoured tank, waving to the crowd as the sirens blared.

Authorities Respond to the Kaduna Mayhem

According to a reliable police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the protesters did not gain entry into the APC but rather mounted it while the policemen inside drove the vehicle to dismount them. The source confirmed that the APC had been safely returned to its unit.

In response to inquiries, Mansur Hassan, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, clarified that the protesters did not take over the APC but rather occupied it. The policemen inside the vehicle employed tactical maneuvers to remove the protesters without causing damage to the armoured tank.

The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani, had previously declared a curfew in Kaduna metropolis and Zaria to curb the excesses of the protesters.
