Kano State, Nigeria – In a show of solidarity, the Kano State Government has pledged N100 million to support the victims of a devastating fuel tanker explosion that occurred in Majiya town, located in the Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State. This announcement was made by Governor Abba Yusuf during a condolence visit to his Jigawa counterpart, Governor Umar Namadi, at the Government House in Dutse on Thursday.
The tragic incident, which claimed the lives of at least 153 individuals—who were buried on Wednesday—also left many others injured and requiring urgent medical care. The donation aims to alleviate the suffering of the bereaved families and provide assistance for the medical treatment of the injured.
According to a statement released by Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa, the financial support is intended to aid those who have lost loved ones in the tragedy as well as to assist those receiving treatment in hospitals.
Governor Yusuf extended his deepest condolences to the affected families and those recovering from their injuries, reiterating prayers for divine intervention to prevent such tragedies in the future.
In response, Governor Umar Namadi expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the generous donation on behalf of the people of Jigawa State, assuring that the funds will be effectively utilized to support the victims and their families.
In addition to his visit to Jigawa, Governor Yusuf also donated N100 million to assist the victims of a fire disaster that recently destroyed 29 shops at the Kantin Kwari Textile Market.
