Kano State Police Make Significant Counterfeit Currency Arrests
Kano State — The Kano State Police Command announced on Tuesday that they have apprehended three individuals connected to a large counterfeit currency operation involving a staggering total equivalent to N129.5 billion.
During a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Bompai, Commissioner of Police CP Salman Garba Dogo, represented by Police Public Relations Officer SP Abdullahi Haruna, outlined the details of this notable breakthrough. Authorities recovered counterfeit bills in multiple denominations, which included $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000, and N1,443,000.
CP Dogo stated, “We arrested three suspects and confiscated counterfeit currencies totaling N129.5 billion, which comprises $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000, and N1,443,000. We had previously detained additional suspects involved in related criminal activities, and we remain committed to combatting such offenses.”
In a separate incident, CP Dogo reported that two individuals lost their lives due to a conflict stemming from rivalries in the Rimi, Kofar Mata, and Yakasai regions. The violence broke out following a football match and sparked retaliatory assaults.
“Our officers conducted an immediate assessment and have been dispatched to restore peace in the impacted areas,” Dogo noted, adding that investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the violence.
Over the past two weeks, the police command has achieved notable success, with 62 arrests linked to various serious crimes. These actions reflect the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to address crime in Kano State effectively.
