Gunmen Kidnap Akwa Ibom Monarch from his palace

The Paramount Ruler of Mbo Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, HRM Ogwong Okon A. Abang, was abducted from his palace in Ebughu on Saturday around 9 PM. This incident adds to growing concerns over the deteriorating security situation in the Oron region.

The kidnapping of the monarch follows the abduction of Dr. John Robbin Esu, a doctor in the state who has been held captive for nearly three weeks. His kidnapping led to a strike by doctors in the state, protesting the security lapses.

The recent abduction of HRM Ogwong Okon A. Abang has intensified worries about the safety and security in the area. Just last week, the wife of Chief Asukwo Eweme Ulap Okon, a notable political figure known as Levile, was also kidnapped in Oron.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has yet to release a statement regarding the monarch’s kidnapping. However, the Commissioner of Police, CP Waheed Ayilara, along with other service commanders, was reportedly on the way to the Ebughu Palace of the kidnapped ruler at the time of this report.
