The Lagos State Government has announced the disbursement of more than N391 million to the families of 164 state employees who passed away while in service over the past year. This initiative is part of the state’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of grassroots communities in its development plans.
Bolaji Robert, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development, highlighted this achievement on Monday while detailing the ministry’s successes from the previous year. In a statement issued by Adebayo Kehinde, Assistant Director of the ministry’s Public Affairs Unit, Robert emphasized that significant funds had been allocated for insurance payments to the families of deceased local government officials and staff of the State Universal Basic Education Board.
Robert underscored the state’s continuous engagement with key stakeholders to foster grassroots development. He noted that these efforts have led to tangible improvements and ongoing rural-urban renewal projects, which have helped curb the migration from rural to urban areas. One notable initiative is a recent two-day capacity-building workshop organized for 376 councillors from the state’s 57 councils, aimed at enhancing their legislative capabilities. This training is part of the state government’s broader strategy to strengthen local governance.
