May Ubeku, Founder of Citizens Health Initiative Nigeria, has been recognised for her sustained efforts in delivering healthcare to underserved communities across Lagos at the 2026 Nigerian Women Achievers Awards and Conference (NWAAC).
The organisation was equally honoured for its innovative community-based healthcare model, with specific recognition of its outreach to vulnerable populations in Makoko and displaced individuals in Surulere, Lagos.
The event, held in April at the Grand Ballroom of Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, was themed “Women: Listen, Act and Transform,” in line with this year’s International Women’s Day call to “Give to Gain.” In a historic first, the 2026 edition of NWAAC combined its awards ceremony with a large-scale medical outreach programme.
As a key health partner, Citizens Health Initiative Nigeria delivered free cervical cancer screenings, Hepatitis B testing, medical consultations, and wellness education to participants at the event.
Organisers noted that the recognition reflects the organisation’s growing impact in bridging critical healthcare gaps, particularly through preventive care and health education initiatives targeting communities often underserved by formal health systems across Lagos and beyond.
