Lagos, Nigeria – Mr. Musiliu Akinsanya, widely recognized as MC Oluomo, has been elected as the new National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) for Lagos State. The election took place on Saturday at the Union’s Zonal Secretariat located along the Osogbo/Ikirun road, during the Union’s Quadrennial Delegate Conference.
Akinsanya emerged as the sole candidate for the position, with delegates from four Southwest states—Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti—participating in the voting process. The election was overseen by the acting National President of NURTW, Aliyu Issa-Ore.
In his address to the assembly, Issa-Ore clarified that according to the Union’s Constitution, the zone eligible to nominate a candidate for the National President’s role is responsible for conducting the election and proposing the candidate to the national body.
Represented by Mrs. Adedamola Salam, the Head of Finance at the National Headquarters in Abuja, Issa-Ore affirmed, “The Southwest zone has adhered fully to the Constitution in electing Oluomo as President.”
Additionally, the delegates elected Tajudeen Agbede to serve as the Vice President, Southwest, while Akeem Adeosun was appointed as Trustee from the Zone.
Following his oath of office, Akinsanya, flanked by family and friends, called for harmony within the Union and vowed to promote unity among its members. He expressed, “I have forgiven all who have wronged me, and I sincerely hope those I have offended can forgive me in return. This is our Union, and we must all commit to safeguarding it.
