A white Toyota Hilux Pickup registration number FG79-A23, belonging to the Federal Ministry of Police Affairs, has been stolen in the Gwarimpa area of Abuja. The ministry, responsible for policy formulation and implementation in relation to policing and internal security, as well as providing administrative support to the Nigeria Police Force, Police Academy, and Nigeria Police Trust Fund, has reported the incident.
According to reports, the vehicle was stolen on Tuesday night around 35 Road, Gwarimpa 3rd Avenue. The owner, who is assigned to the ministry, took to social media to alert authorities and the public about the theft.
The recent spate of car thefts in Abuja has raised concerns among residents. In May, the FCT Police Commissioner, CP Benneth Igweh, paraded 12 suspects linked to car theft and ‘one-chance’ robbery. The latter refers to a type of fraud or scam where criminals target unsuspecting passengers waiting for taxis or buses.
The recovered stolen vehicles include a Toyota Camry, an Audi A4, and a Honda Accord Sports. Notably, the suspects had tampered with the chassis numbers of these cars. Authorities are working to recover the stolen vehicle and bring the perpetrators to justice.
As authorities investigate the theft of the government-owned Toyota Hilux Pickup, residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.
