Human Rights Lawyer Confirms Detention
Nigerian musician and social media sensation, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington or “AKPI,” has been arrested by the Nigerian Police during a performance in Owerri, Imo State.
The arrest was confirmed by human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju, who revealed the development in a statement shared on his official Facebook page. According to Adeyanju, Darlington was detained shortly after returning to Nigeria for the event.
“Our client, Speed Darlington a.k.a AKPI, has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Owerri during his show,”
Adeyanju wrote.
Reason for Arrest Still Unknown
While the exact reasons for the arrest remain unclear, this incident adds to the controversial artist’s recent encounters with law enforcement.
Previous Arrest Over Cyberstalking Allegations
Darlington was recently detained in Abuja by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) over allegations of cyberstalking fellow artist Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy. The musician had initially been arrested in Lagos before being transferred to Abuja for questioning.
Despite meeting bail conditions and securing his release, it appears Speed Darlington’s legal troubles are far from over.
