Nigerian Army Achieves Major Success Against Terrorism in Recent Operations, Neutralises Amirul Khahid of Alafa
Over the weekend, soldiers from the Nigerian Army executed a series of offensives that successfully eliminated a notorious terrorist commander, Abba Alai, also known as Amirul Khahid of Alafa, who had been a target on security watchlists. The military actions, which unfolded in Bama and Gwoza, involved intense gunfire that lasted more than four hours, resulting in the defeat of numerous insurgents.
Troops recovered an impressive array of weapons, which included 11 Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) bombs, 760 rounds of linked 7.62mm ammunition, 220 rounds of linked 12.7mm ammunition, an AK-47 rifle, and 440 rounds of 7.62mm by 54 mm ammunition, among other significant military gear. This operation marks a significant blow to terrorist capabilities in the region.
In a related operation in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, soldiers liberated 10 hostages comprising seven women and three children after a notorious terrorist commander surrendered and handed over two AK-47 rifles. Meanwhile, in Delta State, army troops apprehended a prominent commander of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)/Eastern Security Network (ESN), identified as Ekene Ifeanyi, at his hideout in the Issele Asagba Forest of Oshimili South.
A statement from the Army outlined the relentless efforts of the troops in combating terrorism, stating, “In a fierce and determined crackdown on terrorism, the Nigerian Army has once again proven its commitment to obliterating terrorist enclaves and delivering decisive blows to their operations.” The statement detailed how troops, acting on credible intelligence, launched a coordinated assault on a heavily fortified terrorist stronghold in Bama, where insurgents were believed to be regrouping to unleash violence on nearby villages.
The battle that ensued was intense, with soldiers overpowering the insurgents, who eventually fled, leaving behind a considerable cache of weapons and supplies. As troops advanced, they encountered heavy resistance, leading to the neutralization of several insurgents, including the targeted Abba Alai aka Amirul Khahid of Alafa.
Moreover, the troops conducted a thorough search in a nearby locality known for terrorist activity, uncovering essential supplies and weapons. During their maneuvers near Garin Fallujah, they engaged insurgents in a fierce firefight, further disbanding their ranks.
In a notable rescue operation, an elderly woman held captive by terrorists for a decade was freed. Simultaneously, soldiers targeted a known kidnappers’ hideout in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, where they apprehended a key suspect linked to a long-standing security watchlist and recovered an arsenal that included two AK-47s and other firearms.
In Katsina State, troops confronted terrorists during an attempted attack, showcasing superior firepower that forced attackers to retreat into the forest, abandoning their motorcycles. Additionally, a significant development occurred when a high-ranking terrorist commander in Jibia voluntarily surrendered, bringing with him two AK-47 rifles and releasing hostages as a sign of his decision to abandon terrorism.
Throughout the weekend, various engagements across different states, including Zamfara, Niger, and Kwara, resulted in the neutralization of terrorists, the recovery of stolen motorcycles, and the destruction of criminal hideouts.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, commended the troops for their bravery and determination, asserting that the welfare of the soldiers remains a priority as they continue their fight against terrorism and criminal activities in the country. He emphasized the Army’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and stability throughout Nigeria, vowing to relentlessly pursue and dismantle the remnants of terror groups.
