Nigerian Passengers Stranded in Lomé After Air France Flight Diversion Due to Bad Weather

Nigerian travelers aboard an Air France flight faced unexpected challenges when their journey took an unfortunate turn, leaving them stranded in Lomé, Togo. The flight, which was heading from Paris to Abuja, was diverted due to inclement weather conditions in the Nigerian capital. This situation has drawn attention from Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, who expressed his concerns via a statement on his official X account Thursday night.

Keyamo explained that the Air France flight was unable to land in Abuja due to severe weather and was rerouted to Lomé instead. However, he criticized the airline for its handling of the situation, noting that plans were in place to leave the affected passengers in Lomé until the following day, despite the same aircraft being scheduled to return to Abuja later that evening.

“I have just been alerted to a situation involving mostly Nigerian passengers left stranded at Lomé, Togo, by Air France,” Keyamo stated. “The flight from Paris could not land due to bad weather in Abuja this evening. The confounding situation now is that instead of bringing the passengers back to Abuja after the storm subsided, there are plans to leave them in Lomé till tomorrow.”

In response to the predicament, the Minister took immediate action by coordinating with his officials and engaging directly with the airline’s representatives. “I directed my Director of Air Transport Management to contact the country manager of Air France, and I personally reached out to Air France Nigeria a short while ago, insisting that those passengers be returned to Abuja tonight or receive treatment in line with best international standards if they must remain in Lomé overnight,” Keyamo added.

As of the time of this report, Air France had not released an official statement regarding the situation.
