Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Accuses Fuel Marketers of Price Inflation Amid Economic Hardship
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has leveled accusations against fuel marketers for allegedly inflating petrol prices, asserting that the current pump rates are considerably higher than the actual market value. The NLC argues that this practice is contributing to the exploitation of Nigerians, who are facing increasing hardship and hunger as a result of government policies that are pushing many into extreme poverty.
In a statement released after its recent National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, the NLC emphasized the severe economic challenges affecting citizens nationwide and called for an urgent reassessment of what it termed “anti-people” policies.
Additionally, the labor organization announced that state councils where the new minimum wage has yet to be implemented should prepare for an indefinite strike beginning December 1, 2024, as a protest against unresolved labor issues.
This call to action highlights the NLC’s growing alarm over the economic pressures faced by Nigerians and reinforces its commitment to holding both fuel marketers and the government responsible for the welfare of the populace.
