Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Refutes Allegations Over Viral Video of Fuel Scoop Incident
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has officially denied allegations that its officers were involved in a viral video showing uniformed personnel extracting fuel from a damaged tanker. In a statement released on Monday by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF clarified that those depicted in the footage are not Nigerian police officers, but rather uniformed personnel from a neighboring francophone nation.
“The video circulating in the media, which shows individuals in camouflage collecting fuel from the wreckage of an accident tanker, has been disseminated to tarnish the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force. It is crucial to stress that the people in the video are not members of the NPF. They are military personnel from a neighboring francophone country, and their uniforms bear similarities to those of the Nigeria Police. Additionally, the individuals were conversing in French, not in any Nigerian languages or English,” the statement indicated.
The NPF condemned the dissemination of “false information and unverified content,” asserting that such actions harm the integrity of the police force.
Adejobi highlighted that the Nigeria Police, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, is committed to maintaining discipline, professionalism, and a strong focus on public safety. “We strongly condemn the sharing of misleading information and unverified reports that aim to tarnish or undermine the image of the Nigeria Police Force. Such behavior not only compromises the force’s integrity but also has far-reaching negative implications for our nation and its citizens.”
The police force encouraged the public to exercise caution in sharing information and called on Nigerians to verify facts to maintain national unity and protect the credibility of institutions dedicated to public safety. “We urge all Nigerians to take care and confirm information before sharing it, as this is essential for promoting national unity and sustaining the credibility of those institutions that work diligently for the safety of the public,” the NPF stated.
