NSCDC destroys illegal refinery in rivers state, 3 arrested

In a major operation, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested three suspects at an illegal oil refinery in Rivers State. The refinery, located in Etche Local Government Area, was discovered by NSCDC operatives who were patrolling the Nembe/Odagwa Creek.

According to sources, the illegal refinery was equipped with a large underground storage tank that could hold up to 100,000 litres of illegally refined crude oil. The suspects, who were arrested on the spot, are currently cooperating with investigators and are expected to be charged in court once the investigation is complete.

The NSCDC spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, praised the efforts of citizens who have been providing valuable information to the corps, and urged them to continue doing so. “We (the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)) are committed to eradicating economic sabotage in the oil region and will not be deterred by any challenges,” he said.

The arrests are seen as a significant blow to illegal oil bunkering activities in the region, which have been a major concern for the authorities. The NSCDC has warned those involved in such illegal activities to repent or face the consequences.

The operation is part of the NSCDC’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal oil refining and other forms of economic sabotage in the country. The agency has promised to continue to work tirelessly to protect the nation’s oil resources and ensure that those who engage in illegal activities are brought to justice.
