Three corps members in Gombe State have had their service year extended due to violations of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) regulations, while four others were reported to have absconded. This announcement was made on Thursday during the passing-out ceremony for Batch C Stream I by the Gombe State Coordinator of NYSC, Chinwe Nwachuku.

Nwachuku stated that a total of 1,210 corps members successfully completed their service year, which includes 662 males and 548 females. She emphasized the NYSC’s commitment to maintaining discipline among its members.

During her address, Nwachuku expressed pride in the accomplishments of the corps members, noting, “I am filled with great joy and very proud of all you have accomplished during the service year. May your sacrifices and selfless contributions towards the socio-economic development of the nation be recognized.” She encouraged the graduating corps members, wishing them success as they transition to the next chapter of their lives.

Nwachuku highlighted the lasting impact of their service, saying that posterity would remember their efforts in nation-building and positive contributions to their host communities in sectors such as education, health, and agriculture. Additionally, she urged them to embrace the cultural richness of Gombe State, hoping it would foster national integration and unity in Nigeria.

She advised the corps members to leverage the skills and knowledge gained during their service year, encouraging them to participate in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme, which could offer them sustainable livelihood opportunities. “Whether you choose to further your education, build a career, or launch your own business, I am confident that you will stand out in your chosen fields,” she affirmed.

Nwachuku also acknowledged the valuable connections formed during the service year, urging them to nurture these relationships, as they are essential for breaking down cultural barriers and promoting mutual understanding, ultimately contributing to positive development. “You have become true ambassadors of the Scheme in the pursuit of unity, peace, and progress,” she concluded.
